It’s a common misconception that erectile dysfunction comes with old age or illness. Whilst this may be true, it can also affect much younger men, even those in their twenties.
At Moorgate Andrology we receive many inquiries from young men who cannot either sustain or get an erection strong enough for sexual intercourse.
When this happens, it is important to find any underlying cause of the erectile dysfunction, and this will be the primary aim of the Urologist.
There are several potential contributory factors to erectile dysfunction in men, these may include,
- Depression
- Recreational drugs
- Excessive alcohol intake
- Obesity
- Other undiagnosed illnesses
Erectile dysfunction in young men can be devastating. It affects personal relationships and can lead to feelings of anger, loneliness, anxiety, and worry.
It is vital that you seek help as soon as you feel that your erections are not what they used to be. A Urologist will be able to discuss the problem with you and arrange any tests or investigations to rule out any underlying medical conditions.
The good news is that erectile dysfunction can be successfully treated when any underlying causes have been ruled out.
Treatment could include counseling or medication as required. If the problem is a lifestyle issue, then your Urologist will be able to help in the provision of support from other medical specialties to help you.
One word of caution, there are many advertisements that claim to be able to cure erectile dysfunction on the internet. These are usually in the form of pills or potions with no medical or scientific evidence that they are effective. We would recommend avoiding these and instead arrange a consultation either with your general practitioner, or a Urologist, who will be able to provide you with the best advice.
