What Is A Micropenis?

Micropenis is a medical condition where the penis is significantly shorter than average, despite having normal structure and function.

It is usually defined as a stretched penile length of less than 2.5 standard deviations below the mean for a person’s age and ethnicity. In adult men, this typically means a stretched length of less than 7 cm (2.75 inches).

Importantly, micropenis is not the same as a buried penis or one hidden by fat or loose skin in micropenis, the size itself is genuinely small due to underlying hormonal or developmental factors.

While the condition is often diagnosed at birth or during puberty, some men may not receive a diagnosis until adulthood. This can lead to long-standing challenges with self-esteem, sexual confidence, and overall well-being.

Moorgate Andrology offers confidential consultations and specialist surgical options to help men affected by this condition restore both appearance and confidence.

Surgical Solutions at Moorgate

At Moorgate Andrology, we take a combination approach to treating micropenis, aiming to improve both length and overall proportion.

The primary surgical technique used is Suspensory Ligament Release, which involves cutting the ligament that anchors the penis to the pubic bone. This allows more of the penile shaft to extend outside the body, increasing visible length, typically by 1.5 to 2 inches when flaccid.

To enhance thickness, we also offer Girth Enhancement through fat transfer. This can be performed on its own or alongside ligament release for a more balanced, natural-looking result.

All treatments are carried out by GMC-registered surgeons in CQC-approved surgical centres.

Recovery and Results

The full procedure typically takes 60 to 90 minutes under general anaesthesia.

Patients are discharged the same day with full aftercare instructions and access to our clinical support team. Most men return to light activities and work within 7 to 10 days, with swelling and bruising subsiding over the following weeks.

Importantly, this surgery does not affect erectile function, sensitivity, or urination.

The scar is small and discreet, hidden in the natural crease at the base of the penis. Final results become more noticeable over time as healing progresses and the area settles.

With proper care, the outcome is permanent and can significantly improve confidence and body image.
