In this article we want to dispel the myths about penis enlargement surgery and give you the facts.
These facts are based on thousands of procedures carried out over 12 years.
If you are considering penis enlargement surgery it is important that you know the facts, and from whom better than the provider carrying out more penis enlargement than any other in the United Kingdom.
This is not the sugar coated version either, we will discuss the potential risks and complications as well as the benefits.
Benefits of Penis Enlargement Surgery
When penis enlargement surgery is done well, the results are reasonably predictable. In terms of the length of the penis, it is possible to increase this between one and two inches in most cases. The penis length is not created by the surgeon, rather there is unseen additional length that is released due to the release of the suspensory ligament from its attachments to the pubic bone. The resulting enlargement is not the same to the centimetre for very man, but 2.5 to 5cm is the norm. There are exceptions to this rule of course and you should bear this in mind when choosing this option.
This extra flaccid length makes the penis look bigger in its normal state. So men who choose this surgery do so because they don’t like the look of the penis when it is flaccid. In many cases it puts off men attending gym , or playing sports, or even forming sexual relationships because of the embarrassment of their penis size.
It is important to remember that the erect length of the penis is not changed by this surgery. However, six weeks after surgery when the penis has healed, it is useful to start wearing a penis extender for around two hours per day or night, as this can help increase erect length over the following six to twelve months.
The best result from penis enlargement surgery comes from a combination of penis lengthening and thickening at the same time. The thickening aspect is performed by harvesting fat from the belly and inner thighs. Following purification of this fat it is then injected into the shaft to the maximum that the penis can take. Following a short period of absorption of round 30% of the fat, the remaining fat gathers its own blood supply and becomes living tissue.
It is the fat transfer that has the biggest impact on penis size because the penis is thicker in the flaccid and erect state, the girth gains are usually between one and two inches.
When the penis is erect the fat also spreads longitudinally and pushes against the head of the penis. This can also make the penis a little longer.
Following a combination of length and girth surgery the flaccid penis is virtually double the pre-operative size in many cases.
Lastly, the results of the surgery are considered permanent. In the future, a further fat transfer could be performed to achieve bigger girth gains. However, the lengthening aspect is considered a once only event. Moorgate has its own unique technique for prevention of ligament reattachment that does not involve the need for an implant, as used in other clinics. Native tissue is used to act as a barrier instead.
Increased size and potential psychological benefits.
It will take around six to twelve weeks to see the final result of penis enlargement surgery. At the end of the recovery period most patients report an increase in self-confidence and a willingness to engage in personal relationships and other activities that have been stopped or suspended because of the penis size, such as sporting activities. Many men have penis enlargement surgery between relationships and the surgery often helps them make extra efforts to form new relationships, confident in their new penis size.
Risks and Complication
No discussion about penis enlargement surgery would be complete without mentioning the potential risks and complications. Most Patients have an uneventful recovery and after six weeks they are back to sexual activity and sports. However all surgery carries some element of risk of course, and it’s important that you understand what these are
As with any surgery there is always a risk of infection. This risk is extremely low since you are discharged from hospital with a course of antibiotics. However, infection can still happen and this will need to be treated if an infection occurs.
All patients will experience some bruising and swelling after the surgery, this is to be expected and this will settle in the following weeks. Occasionally it can take some time to settle completely and some numbness may remain in areas such as the inner thighs for several weeks or months.
Minor lump and bump formations can happen after the transfer of fat. You will start a period of post op massage of the penis for six weeks to help keep everything smooth and even. Despite this, some lumps can form sometimes. If they become troublesome a visit to the outpatient will clinic will be needed to treat them.
After penis thickening surgery the foreskin usually swells. This is normal and is due to the volume of fat first injected into the penis. Over the following weeks as the fat settles down, you will be able to retract the foreskin over the head of the penis. There is a very rare complication where you cannot , and a circumcision will be required. However this is very rare. Those who are circumcised cannot have this problem of course.
It is worth mentioning here that it is very important to understand from your surgeon what will happen when the suspensory ligament has been cut. This is because if the ligaments are left without even a silicone buffer in place, they will reattach at some point. This can lead to the ligaments attaching higher up. And leaving the penis shorter than the pre surgery length.
If a silicone buffer is used in the surgery ( which is certainly better than nothing ) there is a small chance that the implant may become dislodged from its attachment to the pubic bone. If this happens you may feel a bump at the base of the pubis. Although this may not be painful it would be very annoying and in such cases they are almost always removed. Similarly, if you get a bad infection that is not controlled by antibiotics the implant may also need to be removed. These eventualities mean further surgery of course. At Moorgate we use our own interposition of native tissue and we do not rely on silicone implants anymore.
Case Studies
At Moorgate Andrology we see thousands of men every year who wat to make their penis bigger.
These men come from all backgrounds and are of all ages. Of course, the minimum age for surgery is 18 and although there is not upper age , it is important that you are fit and well for the surgery.
Here are some typical case studies
1. single male
At the beginning of his sexual life but not at all happy with his penis size. Maybe he has had some negative comments from previous sexual partners that has knocked his confidence. Now he is avoiding sexual relationships and has stopped going to the gym.
2. Married man
Many married men have penis enlargement surgery. Although their partners tell them that the penis size is fine, it does not make them feel any better. This is because they have never been happy with the size of their penis and have a lack of inner self confidence that no am9ht of reassurance from the partner will suffice. Most married men will say that they have wanted the surgery done for their whole adult life.
3. Guy between relationships
As we have already mentioned this is a particularly popular surgery for men between relationships. They lack the confidence to move on with their lives because their life long anxieties about their penis size come back to the fore when they are single again
Conclusion
Penis enlargement surgery can be life changing for many men, and here at Moorgate we see the impact it can have on men when they get the penis size that they have always wanted. Of course, all surgery carries risks and this includes penis enlargement surgery and you should be are of them and accept the risks when you go ahead.
You can help to mitigate these risks by choosing a qualified healthcare professional with vast experience in penis enlargement surgery. In the United Kingdom this is usually a Urologist.
They have the specialist training in male genital anatomy and procedures. Other providers include general surgeons and plastic surgeons, but one should check how many procedures they have carried out before choosing this option. It is unlikely that their day-to-day work will be penis enlargement surgery
We would also advice against penis enlargement surgery abroad for this very reason.
