Penis Enlargement Surgery Recovery: What To Expect

For men considering penis enlargement surgery, understanding the recovery process is just as important as knowing the procedure itself. At Moorgate Andrology, we guide patients through every stage, ensuring a safe, comfortable recovery and optimal results.

This guide covers pre-op preparation, post-op care, expected timelines, potential complications, and tips for a smooth recovery.

The recovery process, whilst similar or same for most, will vary slightly depending on the type of work you do and your general daily activities.

the recovery process from penis enlargement surgery is one question I am asked every time from Patients since they need to plan their lives around the first week or two at least.

Preparing for Surgery

Proper preparation sets the stage for a safe recovery:

  • Medical assessment: Pre-surgical health checks ensure you’re fit for anaesthesia. Whatever checks you require we will make sure they are done. Its a minor surgery so for most its no more than a simple swab test, if you have any medical conditions then we will factor these in to your pre op assessment

  • Lifestyle adjustments: Avoid smoking and limit alcohol, as both can impair healing. This is the same advice given before any surgical procedure.

  • Pre-op instructions: Follow the surgeon’s advice on medications, fasting, and hygiene. We will give you clear instructions about preparing for surgery. Its nothing complicated but important nonetheless to follow them

Being prepared reduces risks and speeds up the healing process.

Immediate Post-Operative Period (Days 0–3)

  • Hospital recovery: After surgery, you’ll rest under observation until cleared to go home. Usually you are at the hospital for just five or six hours from the admission to the discharge

  • Discomfort: Mild pain, swelling, and bruising are common; prescribed medications help manage this. You will also have a course of antibiotics to take for one week. You should take the complete course, even if you feel better. The bruising is usually on the belly and inner thighs were the fat was taken for the penis girth fat transfer.

  • Dressing & support: A dressing may be applied to protect the surgical area.

You will be discharged on the same day. Make sure you have arrangements for someone to take you home. Because you have had a general anesthetic you cant travel home alone

Early Recovery (Week 1)

  • Swelling and bruising: These are normal and begin to subside after the first week or two. The inner thighs tend to be the most sore and can feel a bit numb at first, this is normal at this stage

  • Hygiene: Follow the clinic’s instructions for cleaning and any dressing changes.

  • Activity restriction: Avoid sexual activity, heavy lifting, or strenuous exercise.

During this period, rest is crucial for proper healing. No gym, sport or sexual activity for six weeks. You can walk around of course but just limit real strenuous exercise because this might make the penis swell up a little bit

Its at this stage that you will start a regime of massage of the penis as instructed by the Urologist. We will show you how to do it. Just three or four times a day for one to two minutes. We even have a video that we will send you which demonstrates it. Also you should stretch the penis outwards from the body,  ten times each time you go for a pee. Do the massage at the same time as the stretching then its easy to remember.

Almost all patients are now back to work.

Mid-Term Recovery (Weeks 2–4)

  • Resuming light activity: Gentle walking and normal daily activities should be continued , but still nothing strenuous yet

  • Follow-up appointments: Your surgeon will check healing progress. These appointments are usually on zoom video so no need to travel to the clinic in most cases

  • Swelling reduction: Swelling continues to decrease, and results begin to appear more natural. You will see the benefit of the massage and stretching regime you have been doing. If your foreskin has been unable to retract fully, this will now be easier as the fat inside the penis organises itself and become stable.

Long-Term Recovery (Weeks 4–12)

  • Full tissue healing: Internal tissues gradually strengthen, reducing the risk of complications. As we approach six weeks you will start to see the final result of the surgery

  • Sexual activity: Typically resumed at 6 weeks post-op, and you can go back to the gym and any sporting activities.

  • Final results: Length and girth enhancements become more apparent as swelling resolves completely.

Full recovery may take up to 3 months, but patience ensures the best outcomes.

Potential Complications

Though complications are rare when surgery is performed by experienced specialists, patients should be aware of:

  • Infection – minimized through sterile techniques and post-op care. About 1% of patents get an infection requiring further treatment despite the fact that they are already taking antibiotics

  • Excessive swelling or hematoma – usually temporary and treated if necessary. This is seldom seen

  • Scarring – minimal and generally hidden. The scar is hidden in a natural fold that we have at the base of the penis, where it meets the body. the needle marks from the fat transfer will now be fading

  • Temporary changes in sensation – typically resolves over weeks. Where areas such as the inner thighs were numb at first, this will be beginning to resolve

At Moorgate Andrology, safety protocols and careful monitoring reduce risks significantly.

Tips for a Smooth Recovery

  • Follow all post-op instructions precisely. Especially the rules about activities in the first six weeks.

  • Rest and avoid overexertion. As above

  • Monitor for unusual symptoms and contact your clinic if concerned. You will now be on first name terms with our post op care team!. They will make sure that the recovery is a smooth process and arrange any appointments for you with the Urologist that you need.

  • Attend all follow-up appointments for optimal guidance. Dont skip follow up appointments. they are mostly on video so not too inconvenient but we will want to make sure that you are okay and we have the results that we wanted

Good recovery habits help preserve surgical results and ensure a natural outcome.
