What is a preputioplasty?

Preputioplasty is a foreskin-preserving operation used to treat phimosis. Small incisions are made in the tight part of the foreskin and then closed in a way that widens the opening, helping you retract the foreskin more easily.

Recovery varies, but many patients are able to return to light daily activity within a few days. Tenderness, swelling, and sensitivity around the foreskin can take longer to settle. Your Urologist will give you specific aftercare guidance based on the technique used and your healing progress.

Driving and return to work depend on discomfort, the anaesthetic used, and how quickly swelling settles. Many patients resume desk-based work within a few days, but you should not drive until you feel comfortable, can react normally, and have followed your surgeon's advice.

A preputioplasty is designed to widen a tight foreskin while preserving it. Circumcision removes the foreskin completely. If your main goal is to relieve phimosis without full foreskin removal, preputioplasty may be appropriate, but suitability depends on the degree of tightness, scarring, and your anatomy.
