Top Myths about penis enlargement surgery exposed

At Moorgate we think we have seen and heard it all when it comes to penis enlargement. In this article we want to be bunk the myths surrounding penis enlargement surgery. Over the past twelve years we have carried out several thousand penis enlargement procedures. These include both penis enlargement surgery and penis fillers. Over this time techniques have been improved and adapted, leading to better outcomes for patients. It is vital that you equip yourself with the very latest information about penis enlargement surgery so you know what to expect from the procedure.

Common Myths and Misconceptions

1. The penis will be longer in erection

This is a common myth that the penis can be made longer in erection. The process to increase a penis length surgically is called a ligamentosis surgery. This involves the cutting of the suspensory ligament from its attachments to the pubic bone. This can lengthen by penis typically by one to two inches, it is not the same for every man but the results are reasonably predictable. However, the rect length of the penis remains unchanged by this manoeuvre.

Urologists are at pains to let patients know not to expect any increase in the erect length of the penis with this procedure. It is usually a procedure undertaken by men who are concerned about the flaccid length of the penis. For example, they may resist changing in front of other people due to embarrassment about their penis size. Using a penis extender can sometimes help with increasing erect penis length due to the effect of traction on the penis. This however requires a commitment of at least six months with daily use to see measureable results.

2. The bigger penis will make you a better lover

Some men believe that a bigger penis will automatically make them a better lover, but of course this is not the case. There are many factors involved in satisfying a sexual partner of which penis size is not solely responsible. It may be true to say that a bigger penis will be helpful where before the penis was unusually small, but many men seek penis enlargement surgery whom statistically have a normal size penis.

3. Penis enlargement surgery will make you infertile

Some men worry that if they have penis enlargement surgery it may not enable them to father children. This is not the case since the surgery has nothing to do with the ejaculation or the ability to ejaculate and release sperm.

4. Fat can be put in the penis head to make it bigger

Some men ask about increasing the penis glans size together with enlargement of the penis shaft. In penis enlargement, surgery the shaft is increased by harvesting fat from the belly and inner thighs, and once purification of the fat has been achieved it is injected into the shaft to make it thicker. However the same fat does not work well in the penis glans. There have been examples of hyaluronic acid injected into the penis glans but this is now considered more risky than injecting the same hyaluronic  into the shaft and is not now widely undertaken.

The risk of penis glans necrosis does exist which can be a catastrophic event and lead to the loss of the head of the penis itself. This is why we no longer recommend injecting the glans of the penis with any material to enlarge it . In penis enlargement surgery the amount of fat injected into the shaft is closely guarded to make sure that the shaft and the glans are in proportion after the surgery.

5. The fat needs topping up every year

A fat transfer is done to make the penis thicker when both flaccid and erect. The penis is filled with the fat to the maximum that the penis can take. This is because even though the fat has been purified  still between 30 and 50% of the fat will absorb in the first six weeks. This is perfectly normal and always happens. The remaining fat then obtains its own blood supply and becomes living tissue. This is then considered permanent.

There are very rare cases of hyper-absorption of the fat but for most patients the results last for the long term. Of course, the natural ageing of the penis cannot be stopped and at some point in the future some patients may want to have a second fat transfer and this is perfectly possible. With modern fat transfer techniques most patients will be happy with on procedure. It is interesting to note that some penis filler clinics will state that the fat transfer will only last twelve months but this is perhaps more to do with the fact that their treatment is based on temporary hyaluronic acid fillers to increase penis girth.

6. You must be circumcised to have penis enlargement surgery

This is a popular myth that we hear often at Moorgate. Indeed, we see some providers in the USA who do insist that the penis is circumcised before the penis enlargement is done, or at least at the same time. We do not agree with this policy. If the foreskin is perfectly normal, and patients can retract the foreskin over the glans of the penis, there is no need to be circumcised before penis enlargement surgery or at the same time.

The foreskin of the penis contains some nerve endings which can be very useful to men during sexual intercourse. When the penis is circumcised these nerve endings are lost forever. On the other hand, if the patient has a phimosis ( tightening of foreskin) this would be the exception to the rule. This is because if the foreskin of the penis is already tight before the enlargement, the this will only be worse afterwards. In these circumstances we will recommend a circumcision at the same time as the penis enlargement. For most men who have penis enlargement surgery they will not need to be circumcised.

Conclusion

It can be very confusing for men to gain reliable and accurate information about penis enlargement surgery. There are many myths , usually the same ones, that we continue to hear daily. Hopefully the most common myths have been debunked here today. When penis enlargement surgery is done well it should not have any impact on sexual performance. The penis will be bigger and that’s that. Of course it has to be said that all surgery carries risks and it is vital that patients seek the services of fully qualified GMC Urologists for this procedure. By choosing a Urologist patients will mitigate the risks and give themselves the best chance of a positive and pleasing outcome.

There are some valuable resources that can be used to check the credentials of a surgeon carrying out penis enlargement. These include the general medical council of great Britain. They have an excellent website where you can enter the surgeons name and check their qualifications and standing with the council. All Doctors must be registered with the GMC in the United Kingdom.
