How does the treatment work ?

Botulinum toxin injections work by relaxing the smooth muscle of the penis in the same way that they relax the muscles of the forehead when treating frown lines.

The smooth muscle of the penis is an important component in the erectile function of the penis.

By relaxing the smooth muscle of the penis we can encourage better flow resulting in harder and stronger erections.

The Procedure

The treatment is performed under local anaesthetic by one of our Urologists. The treatment takes around twenty minutes and you can go home directly after the treatment. It make take several days for the treatment to take effect.

You may also notice that the penis looks a little longer in the flaccid state due to the relaxation of the smooth muscle of the penis. This is particularly useful if you are concerned by the look of your penis when It retracts.

The results

The effects of the treatment are not permanent. Expect results to last typically between six and nine months. The duration of the results in your case may be slightly less or slightly longer than the average. At some point the treatment will need to be repeated to maintain the results. You should know that the treatment may not meet your expectations in terms of penis hardness, it does not work for everyone. If the treatment does not meet your expectations we will look at alterative treatments. This treatment can be a good option to try when other conservative treatments have failed or have stopped working.

Contraindications

If you take any of the following medications you should stop taking them as follows prior to treatment

• Aspirin. 5 days
• Clopidogrel. 7 days
• Apixaban. 2 days
