Penis Fillers: a non surgical option of penis enlargement

Written by David Mills | Nov 4, 2024 10:57:36 AM

Moorgate andrology introduced the concept of penis fillers to the United Kingdom around 12 years ago. They had been available in the United States long before we brought them to these shores. Up until this time, it was mostly penis enlargement surgery and penis extenders that men were relying on, to increase their penis size.

Penis fillers have their advantages and disadvantages compared to the aforementioned options of course, and it these we will explore in this article.

It is very important to understand what penis fillers can and cannot achieve.

In this article we will try and provide some clarity

What are penis fillers ?

When we talk about penis fillers we are referring to the injection of hyaluronic acid into the penis to increase the penis girth. The same hyaluronic acid injections are used much more commonly in the face, to fill in wrinkles , plump up lips, and fill in depressions in the cheeks to add volume.

It is the latter formulation of hyaluronic acid that is used in the penis to create additional volume in the penis as they do in the cheeks.

Benefits of Penis Fillers

Penis filers will increase the girth of the penis both in the flaccid and erect states. When they added in quantity to the penis, they can also make the penis look a little longer at the same time, but this is subjective. They are in essence a girth enhancing option. One of the advantages of penis fillers is that they are non-surgical option. The filler is administered under local anaesthetic , whereas penis enlargement surgery is performed under general anaesthetic. With penis fillers there is no need to take any time off work. The recovery period is faster too, only two weeks without sexual activity compared to six weeks with surgery.

The results of the treatment are also instant. Patients can choose a treatment volume based on their current penis size and the size they would like to be. In the first treatment most patients will choose somewhere between 10 and 20 ml.

The more filler injected the thicker the penis will be. The longer the penis is, the more filler it will take.

Patient Eligibility

There are very few patients who are not suitable for treatment. Nonetheless, a full medical history will be taken by the Urologist and medications such as blood thinners may need to be stopped some days before the treatment. The patient should not have any current infections or problems with the penis at the time of treatment. The Urologist will also try and ensure that your expectations can be met. Patients with unrealistic expectations will not be treated , they may be offered other options such as penis enlargement surgery if penis filler will not meet the results that they are looking for

Comparison with Other Treatments

Many men find it difficult to choose between penis fillers and penis enlargement surgery. There are fundamental differences between the two and a set of questions usually helps to focus the patients mind and help in the decision making process. Firstly, it is important to know that the penis fillers will need to be repeated. Typically, modern fillers used for the penis will last about 18 months before they need a top up treatment. This is an average of course, and the results may last longer or shorter than this average. Therefore with penis filler there is an ongoing cost to maintain the results.

Penis enlargement surgery on the other hand is considered permanent. It is more expensive in the short term but penis enlargement surgery is much cheaper in the medium to long term that penis filler.

In practice, about 30% of penis filler patients will go on to have a penis enlargement surgery at a later date.

Another factor to consider apart from cost is the time spent on the procedure. Penis fillers require no time of work, whereas surgery may require you to make a few days to a week off work.

Of course, we cannot complete a comparison without discussing results. One aspect of penis enlargement that is very important to consider is the penis length. The filers can make the penis look a bit longer, but they are not a lengthening treatment. If you are sure that you want the penis lengthened, then a ligamentosis surgery is the correct option because this will give a permanent lengthening to the penis between one and two inches in most cases. If you select this option then the girth enhancement will be performed by a fat transfer rather than filler.

Another deciding factor will be the amount of fat available to do a fat transfer to increase girth rather than filler. Fat is harvested from the belly and inner thighs for a penis girth fat transfer. Although almost all men have enough between these to sites, it is important that enough donor fat is available to ensure a good result. If there is doubt about the amount of donor fat available, the best option in this case would be hyaluronic acid filler.

Consultation and treatment Process

At the consultation the Urologist will discuss the benefits, potential outcome, risks and complications of penis filler with you. Its important that you get to answer all the questions you have, and understand that there are alternatives to penis fillers , incusing penis enlargement surgery. You will most likely have an examination and discuss the amount filler that you are comfortable with starting with.

The treatment itself will take about half an hour. Local anaesthetic is injected from the base of the penis to numb it , prior to injecting the filler. Most providers will us the technique introduced by Moorgate of cannula lead injection. This means that the filler is introduced into the penis in a much more even distribution than needle treatment, with much less trauma to the tissues.

The Urologist will then massage the penis in a special way to ensure even distribution of the filler along the penis shaft. He will show you how to do this when you get home. This penis massage should be done four or five times a day after going for a pee.

It is important to avoid sexual activity for a while afterwards, just to give enough time for the filler to settle down. This period ranges between one and two weeks.

The penis may be a little bruised and swollen in the first two weeks. This is normal and settles down in the coming days. Cannula treatment generally cause less bruising and welling than needle treatments, but this is a generalization and varies from patient to patient.

Conclusion

Penis fillers can be a quick way to increase the penis girth without the need for surgery. They still carry risk of complications though and they should be injected by a qualified Urologist. There is an ongoing commitment in terms of cost because the results are not permanent. The duration of results typically is 18 months between top ups but this can vary, depending how quickly your body breaks down the filler. Another option to consider is penis enlargement surgery for more permanent results, and cheaper cost long term. However, one should remember that the surgery will require a more significant investment in money at the outset,  and time for recovery.

We would advise to take your time and do your research and ask yourself some searching questions before deciding on the right penis enlargement option for you.
