Revision procedure policy- Moorgate Andrology
Moorgate Andrology Revision procedure Policy
This policy applies to all procedures performed by Urologists . In the event of any discrepancies between this policy and other documentation provided by Moorgate Andrology , the terms of this policy shall prevail.
1. Definition and Expectations
A Revision procedure is defined as a corrective procedure to address undesired outcomes following surgical and non-surgical procedures. Urologists do their very best for patients to achieve excellent results, however the final outcome can never be guaranteed. Factors beyond the control of the Urologist and his clinical team can affect results of both surgical and non-surgical procedures.. The need for a revision procedure does not imply that the initial procedure was unsuccessful or that another surgeon would have achieved a better result.
Important considerations:
It is important to understand that perfection, perfect symmetry, and scar-free results are unattainable from the procedures typically performed by Urologists.
Furthermore, specific outcomes, such as exact size/minimum or maximum size, can never be guaranteed.
2. Factors Influencing Surgical Outcomes
There are a number of factors that can impact the final results of a surgical or non-surgical procedure. These may include :
Healing ability: Affected by smoking, poor diet, medications, and genetics. If you smoke and/or have a poor diet you have a higher chance of complications such as infection and poor wound healing.
Scar formation: Predisposition to keloid or hypertrophic scars due to genetics.
Skin quality: Impacted by age, weight loss, steroid use and sun exposure,
External factors: Weight fluctuations or the natural ageing process
Non-compliance: Failure to follow post-operative instructions
Blood circulation issues: Can lead to delayed healing and poor scar formation.
Obesity or repeated surgeries: May affect healing and outcomes.
3. Revision Request Process
Revision requests must be submitted in writing to support@mmspatientservices.co.uk within 6 months of the original surgery date.
Upon receipt, the patient will be scheduled for a revision consultation with their original surgeon within 3 months of the revision surgery request.
If the surgeon is unavailable, the timeframe will be extended by an additional 3 months.
Patients must attend the consultation in person; video consultations are not available for assessments for revision surgery.
If the patient fails to attend the scheduled consultation within the given timeframe, the request will be closed.
4. Revision procedure Consultation
During the consultation, the surgeon will assess
If patient’s expectations were realistic.
If sufficient healing time (generally 6-12 months depening on the procedure) has passed to reasonably assess the final result
If the final outcome is due to other factors beyond the procedure itself.
If the patient had followed all post procedure instructions correctly and attended post procedure consultations when requested.
The surgeon will then go on to explain the risks and benefits of revision surgery and determine if it is in the patient’s best interest. Revision surgery will not be performed if the risks outweigh the benefits or if tissue quality limits the likelihood of success.
Note: Outcomes of revision surgery are not guaranteed by Moorgate Andrology or the Urologists
5. Fees for Revision Procedures
For minor Revisions Under Local Anaesthetic/no anaesthesia
Hospital and surgeon fees are usually waived for minor corrections in the clinic , such as:
- Steroid injection/needling procedures/ hyalase injections
5.2 Scar Revisions
Revisions for stretched, thickened, or unsightly scars under local or general anaesthetic will incur a hospital fee of £1500
6. Timing and Scheduling
Revision surgery must take place within 4 months of the revision consultation.
If a patient declines a scheduled date, an alternative will be provided within the same 4-month period.
If the patient declines a second date, no further dates will be offered, and the revision request will be closed.
Note: Once a date is agreed upon, failure to attend will result in no further revision dates being offered, and full fees will apply for any subsequent procedure.
Moorgate Andrology does not reimburse travel, accommodation, or other related expenses, or loss of earnings for the patient or family members for any revision procedure.
7.1 Cancellation for Non-Medical Reasons
Patients who cancel their revision surgery within 4 weeks of the scheduled date for non-medical reasons will not be offered an alternative date.
7.2 Medical Reasons
Patients cancelling within 4 weeks of the surgery date for medical reasons must provide valid evidence (e.g., a medical certificate, hospital admission letter, or GP letter). In such cases, a new surgery date will be offered within the next 4 months.
