Does Penis Size Matter? What You Need to Know About Size, Confidence, and Enhancement Options

Does Penis Size Matter?

Penis size is a subject that continues to generate questions, myths, and insecurities. At Moorgate Andrology, we recognise that for many men, concerns about size can significantly impact their self-esteem, relationships, and overall well-being. But what is a normal penis size - and when is it worth considering enhancement?

What Is Considered a Normal Penis Size?

Clinical studies suggest the average erect penis length is around 5.1 to 5.5 inches, with a girth of 4.5 inches. However, there is a wide range of what’s considered “normal,” and many men overestimate the average.

Importantly, penis size in its flaccid state doesn’t reliably predict its erect size. In fact, some men with a smaller flaccid length experience a significant increase when aroused.

Why Penis Size Can Affect Confidence

While size may not medically affect function in most cases, the psychological impact can be significant. Concerns about penis length or girth can lead to:

  • Performance anxiety

  • Avoidance of intimate relationships

  • Low self-confidence

  • Body dysmorphia

In some cases, men are affected by “penile dysmorphic disorder”—a mental health condition where they perceive their penis to be much smaller than it is.

When Penis Size Becomes a Medical Concern

There are cases where penis size may be smaller than average due to:

  • Micropenis (usually less than 2.5 inches erect)

  • Buried penis (where the penis is hidden beneath pubic fat or skin)

  • Trauma or scarring (e.g. from Peyronie’s disease or surgery)

If you experience physical symptoms or significant distress, it may be worth discussing enhancement options with a GMC-registered urologist.

Penis Enlargement Options in the UK

At Moorgate Andrology, we offer discreet, medically-led solutions for men looking to improve their size and confidence.

Surgical Penis Enlargement

Penile lengthening surgery involves cutting the suspensory ligament, allowing more of the penis to extend outside the body. It’s a permanent solution performed under general anaesthetic.

Penis Filler Injections

This non-surgical method uses hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers to increase girth. The results are immediate and typically last 12–18 months, with the option for top-ups.

Combination Procedures

Some men benefit from combining surgery and filler to address both length and girth for maximum enhancement.
